Shouts 2008.

No 1

3rd January 2008, Paged at 20.54 hours, to search for a

person in water behind the Birdseye factory.

Lowestoft & southwould coastguard mobile units

& local police also searching the shore area.

After a thorough search down to pakefield area,

search was called off by Yarmouth coastguard.

Back on station 2205 hours.

No 2

24th February 2008, Diverted from exersize at 11.00 hours,

to assist a small angling boat (FREEDOM)

after breaking down close to the south holm buoy.

Once on scene a tow was passed & brought into

Lowestoft.

29th February 2008, Paged at 12.29 hours, to assist a

6 Mtr sports fisher angling boat, (LAYZ DAYZ 2)

after engine failure just north east of the south pier.

On scene 1242 hours where we attached a tow &

brought her in to Lowestoft.

Back on station 1300 hours.

07th April 2008, Paged at 11.13 hours,

After a man was spotted in the water clinging to the

tyres on the end of the south pier.

The harbour launch was already in the area

& got him out & brought to the bridge channel &

waited for an ambulance.

We were then stood down as no need to launch.

30th April 2008, paged at 2235 hours, to assist a

Dutch yacht (DELITE) 19.3 nm East of Lowestoft.

Crew suffering from sea sickness & fatigue.

3 P.O.B.

On scene 2350 in possition 52 27.42 N - 002 16.87 E.

The yacht crew were happy for us to escort them

to Lowestoft & not transfere anyone across either way.

Brought the yacht in to the RN&SYC marina.

Back on station 0410 hours.

1st May 2008, Paged at 1054 hours, as

a dog had been washed out from the beach

at Links road.

Stood down before we launched as all

sorted out & safe.

18th May 2008, Paged at 1333 hours, for Kite surfer in

trouble, off Corton.

On scene at 1350 hours, where we found out that all was now ok.

One surfer had detatched him-self from his kite to stop being

dragged out to sea.

We found & recovered his kite & took back to station.

Gorleston ILB, also on scene.

Lowestoft & southwold mobile coastguard units

in attendance on beach with surfers.

Back on station 1408 hours.

No 8

23rd May 2008, Paged at 2225 hours to search

for a 50/60 yr old white male in water south of Lowestoft.

We searched the area between the South pier down

to Pakefield church but nothing found.

Mobile coastguards & local Police searching the South beach.

Search called off at 2350 hours by Yarmouth Coastguards

after nothing else found.

Back on station 0005 hours.

26th May 2008, Paged at 1546 hours to Kite surfer

in trouble near to the SW Holm buoy.

The kite surfer was ok & managed to get back to the

south beach before we reached the scene.

Stood down by Yarmouth coastguard at 1605 hours.

Back on station 1615 hours.

No 10

31st May 2008, Paged at 2314 hours for capsized boat.

Reports from ABP of a sunken boat up river near

to the grain silo.

On scene at 2329 hours where we found the small angling

boat tied to the quay but most of it under water.

No persons onboard.

We attached a line to the bow & put round a bollard on the quay

& hauled out off water to drain most of the water out,

but she sank again as lowered back.

The bow line was then attached to a coastguard van which

kept the bow up & we put line on to the stern to keep

her from sinking again as she was lowered back.

Refloated & tied up to the steps at 0110 hours.

Back on station 0132 hours.

1st July 2008, Paged at 0656 hours, to assist yacht.

Called to assist a 11mtr German yacht (KOLLER)

with engine problems in possition 52 26.18N-001 47.9E

2 P.O.B.

On scene at 0722 hours & got a tow attached by 0728.

Brought her safely back in to the RN&SYC marina.

Back on station 0830 hours.

No 12

6th July 2008, Paged at 1648 hours to assist a yacht.

Called to a 33ft yacht (LONGHOPE)

after hitting a sandbank & losing her rudder about

0.9nm from the south pier.

2 P.O.B.

Attached a tow & brought her back safely, in difficult

conditions with rough seas & winds gusting to 50mph. 

Back on station 1740 hours.

We have just recieved an award for this rescue.

13th July 2008, Paged at 1707 hours to assist pleasure craft.

Called to a 35ft pleasure boat (PURBECK ILLUSION)

with engine failure.

In possition 52 26.700N - 001 52.463E.

On scene at 1735 hours.

Passed a tow & bridle to the craft & made fast.

Started the tow back to Lowestoft at 1745 hours.

Brought her into the RN&SYC marina &

moored her safely.

Back on station at 1915 hours.

14th July 2008, Paged at 1514 hours to assist a yacht.

Called to a 54ft yacht (CLOUDY BAY),

With A fouled propellor & hydrolic failure.

In possition 52 23.3N - 001 02.00E (10nm SE)

ETA 1615 hours.

on scene 1605 hours, in possition 52 24.5N - 002 01.6E

A tow was passed, connected & started towing

home to Lowestoft at 1610 hours.

Brought her safely in to the RN&SYC marina at 1830 hours.

Back on station 1855 hours.

18th July 2008, Paged at 2232 hours to assist a yacht.

Called to a 36ft yacht (RUFFIAN)

after she had electronics & engine failure 1.5nm south of the

East Barnard buoy in possition 52 24.3N - 001 46.7E

2 P.O.B.

We arrived on scene at 2300,  passed a bridle & tow

& brought her safely into the RN&SYC marina by 0015 hours.

Back on station 0025 hours.

27th July 2008, Paged at 2031 hours.

Called to search for a missing yacht (FIFER).

Last known contact/time & possition;

26/07/08, 20 nm east of Gt Yarmouth @ 0404 hours.

Aldeburgh,Gorleston & Caister lifeboats & rescue 125 sea king

helicopter also called.

Stood down at 2056 hours after reports that the yacht was found

already in harbour in the RN&SYC marina.

Turned around in possition 52 29.43N - 001 51.60E

& headed home.

Back on station2125 hours.

31st July 2008, Paged at 0635 hours.

Called to assist a Dutch 45ft yacht (BLUE BERRY)

with rope wrapped in propellor, 9 nm East of Lowestoft.

In possition 52 27.0N - 002 0.0E

On scene at 07 12 hours in possition 52 26.4N - 001 55.3E

& attached a tow.

Brought her safely back into the RN&SYC marina at 0917.

Back on station 0925 hours.

4th August 2008, Paged at 1150 hours.

Called after reports of an inflatable being blown out to sea

from the south beach.

On scene at 1207 hours in possition 52 28.130N - 001 46.429E

Retreived a childs inflatable ride on toy.

Back on station 1222 hours.

4th August 2008, Paged at 1658 hours.

Called to assist a 27ft pleasuse cruiser (ROSCOE), after suffering

engine failure off the south pier.

On scene at 1714 hours, .25nm East of the wind turbine

in possition 52 28.829N - 001 46.226E.

3 P.O.B.

Attached a tow at 1716 hours & brought her in & moored her

safely in the RN&SYC marina.

Back on station 1758 hours.

10th August 2008, Paged at 0251 hours.

Launched after a young male had jumped off the Bascule bridge.

Police on scene had passed him a life-belt, which he held on to

for a while untill he got back on to some ladders.

Police got him back on to the quay & into an awaiting ambulance.

We where then stood down at 0305 hours once he was safe.

Back on station 0315 hours.

13th August 2008, Paged at 1301 hours.

Called after reports of a young child on the end of

a groin at the South beach.

Launched but were stood down after the beach lifeguards

got her back safely.

Back on station 1318 hours.

16th August 2008, Paged at 1751 hours.

Launched to assist a 30ft yacht (SYLVIA 2)

with engine failure 3nm north of Lowestoft in possition

52 32.067N - 001 45.522E.

On scene 1818 hours, Were we passed a crew member aboard

 the yacht to assist making fast the bridle & tow.

Made our way back to Lowestoft & moored her in the

RN&SYC marina.

Back on station 1942 hours.

16th August 2008, Paged at 1945 hours.

Launched after reports of a kite surfer missing off

the claremont pier.

On scene 1950 hours & started a search pattern.

Search called off at 2003 hours as kite surfer found

safe & well on beach.

Back on station 2020 hours.

No 23

19th August 2008, Paged at 1240 hours.

Called to a Belgium yacht (CHAITANE)(with french crew)

after his craft suffered damage to the rigging.

Yarmouth Coastguard picked up a

distress signal from the yachtsman at about 12.40pm when his vessel

was 10.3 nm off the coast of Southwold.

The coastguard couldn't understand the yachtsman as he didn't speak

any English so a crew aboard the Wattisham rescue helicopter was

dispatched to the area to search for the vessel.

The helicopter had a French-speaking crew member and together they

were able to locate the vessel and direct a lifeboat crew to the location.

On scene at 1340 hours where we offered to tow the yacht into

Lowestoft but he opted to try to make it into the harbour himself.

After a few miles & not making much way the yacht crew accepted

a tow & was brought into Lowestoft. 

Back on station 2030 hours.

24th August 2008, Paged at 1850 hours.

Launched after reports of a kyack missing/overdue.

Started a search but was called off as the Lowestoft Coastguard mobile

unit spotted the kyacker on the beach below the Jolly sailors pub.

Returned to station.

Back on station 1920 hours.

5th September 2008, Paged at 2128 hours.

Called to assist a 27ft German Yacht (ARIELLE) with 4 P.O.B.

In difficulties after their Life ring had got washed overboard & wrapped

around the propellor, she then hit the Holm sand

causing damage to her rudder.

In possition 2nm North East of Lowestoft, 52 30.9N - 001 45.67E

On scene at 2200 hours & attached a tow.

Brought her slowly & safely back to Lowestoft, in SE gale force 9 conditions.

Moored her on the Heritage quay in the RN&SYC

marina at 2255 hours.

Back on station at 2305 hours.

9th September 2008, Paged at 1549 hours.

Called after reports of a kite surfer in trouble off the

Claremont pier.

Stood down before we launched as the kite surfer was

found to be safe & well.

Lowestoft coastguard mobile unit also attended.

23rd September 2008, Paged at 2256 hours.

Launched to assist a 46ft Dutch yacht (WIND STORE)

suffuring engine failure 3.5nm ESE of Lowestoft.

6 P.O.B.

On scene at 2325, in possition 52 25.29N - 001 47.80E

Passed a tow & connected.

Brought her safely back to Lowestoft & moored her

in the RN&SYC marina.

Back on station 0115 hours.

No 28

7th October 2008, Paged at 1705 hours.

Launched after reports of a kite surfer in trouble, north of the

Claremont pier.

Arrived on scene within minutes of launching but were not required

as another kite surfer had managed to help the other one back safely to

the south beach.

Lowestoft Coastguard mobile unit was on the beach with the surfer

so we were stood down.

Back on station 1740 hours.

No 29

12th October 2008, Diverted from our sunday exercize at 1135 hours. 

Informed by Yarmouth coastguard of a broken down Dive boat

33nm SE of Lowestoft.

Arrived on scene with the boat (ZEUS) 35 nm east of Southwold.

(9 P.O.B.)

Attached a tow & headed for Southwold harbour.

Southwold Lifeboat was called out to rendezvous with us

0.25 nm off Southwold & take over the tow of the ZEUS

into the harbour.

We then headed back to Lowestoft.

Back on station 2045 hours.

17th October 2008, Paged at 2140 hours.

Launched after reports of a red flare sighted in the Cross sands

area off Gt Yarmouth/Caister.

Gorleston ALB & Caister Lifeboat also called to help with the search.

An extensive search was carried out of a large area, but nothing

was found.

Yarmouth Coastguards called off the search at 0045 hours

& all Lifeboats helded back to their stations.

Back on station 0135 hours.

14th November 2008, Paged at 1140 hours.

Called after a car was seen being driven off the north quay

near to the grain silo up river.

The female managed to get out of the window before

the car sank & got back on to the quay where an ambulance

then took her to hospital.

On scene at 1150 hours but where no longer required.

Stood down at 1225 hours.

Back on station 1240 hours.

25th November 2008, Paged at 2221 hours.

Paged to launch for a male about to jump

from the Bascule bridge.

Local police managed to get him before he jumped.

We were then stood down before we launched.

No 33

2nd December 2008, Paged at 0552 hours.

Called to search for a crew member reported missing from the

ferry (PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM).

An extensive search was carried out by ourselves, 6 other

Lifeboats & 2 sea king rescue helicopters.

The search area was up to 30 nm off the coast between Lowestoft

 & the Humber due to not knowing when he entered the water.

Yarmouth Coastguard called the search off at 1115 hours after

the area was covered & nothing found.

Back on station 1215 hours.

12 December 2008, Paged at 1147 hours.

Called to assist a 26ft fishing boat (PARINGA  BM186)

with engine failure 0.25nm NE of Lowestoft.

(2 P.O.B.)

On scene at 1205 hours where the tow was connected

& under way back to Lowestoft by 1209 hours.

Brought her safely back & moored her in the Hamilton dock.

Back on station 1235 hours.
