Launched after a PR33 Rescue Daughter craft from a standby
safety vessel (PUTFORD APOLLO) on rocks.
Three people were rescued by Lowestoft lifeboat after their vessel got
into trouble north of the harbour entrance on Friday evening.
The RNLI all weather Tyne lifeboat was called out in gale force winds
around 9.20 pm after reports that a fast rescue craft (not RNLI)
was in trouble at Ness Point, the most easterly land in Britain.
Five minutes after launching they reached the 33 foot vessel
which was stranded on the end of an old jetty.
In rough seas and with winds gusting around 45 mph, three people were
safely rescued after repeated approaches by the lifeboat.
They were taken back to Lowestoft lifeboat station
shaken but otherwise alright.
The boat was coming into Lowestoft to collect equipment
for a standby ship which was at sea off the town.
Capt. Richard Musgrove, Lowestoft Lifeboat Operations Manager, said
"In my opinion this was a courageous rescue in the best traditions of the RNLI.
The rigid inflatable vessel had stranded on a rocky stretch of coast North of
the harbour entrance and was being battered by heavy seas and swell on a lee
shore.
Coxswain/Mechanic John Fox and his crew displayed courage, determination
and skilful seamanship in rescuing the three seaman without injury and
without damaging the Lifeboat. The lifeboat was working in very shallow water.
It was an especially difficult rescue in darkness and in such squally conditions.
I am immensely proud of the efforts of our volunteer crew.
For those three people Friday the thirteenth was their lucky day"
Picture taken just after the rescue.

The boat the following morning.
